Don Peters
|
Town Supervisor
962-5722, ext.201
dpeters@yorktownny.org |
|
A lifelong resident
of the Town of Yorktown, Don Peters was elected the Town’s
Supervisor in 2007. Before taking office, Supervisor Peters
served his community as a Yorktown Police officer for over
19 years, and he continues to operate his family’s sporting
goods business.
With less than two years in office, Supervisor Peters has
already accumulated an impressive list of accomplishments
that reflect his values: fiscal responsibility, open and
accessible government and environmental awareness. Peters
presented his first budget at the end of 2008, with a cut in
spending of almost $600,000. This was the first decrease in
government spending in 15 years, and despite a loss of
approximately 1.4 million dollars in revenue! It is also
noteworthy that these budget cuts did not require
eliminating any services and only saw a mere 2.57% increase
in the Town’s tax rate. Peters intends to continue to lead
the way in finding fiscally responsible solutions to
streamline government spending and do more with less during
his tenure.
Peters believes that Town government plays an important role
in preserving our environment and natural resources. To that
end, Peters signed the U.S. Conference of Mayors’ Climate
Protection Agreement, which committed Yorktown to
implementing practices which will reduce greenhouse gas
emissions at the local level. Peters remains a supporter of
legislation to protect Yorktown’s trees, and he continues to
investigate feasible means to mediate our impact on the
environment. He also advocated for, and ultimately approved,
the formation of an Energy Advisory Committee. This
Committee is charged with researching and recommending
environmentally sound energy alternatives and solutions to
reduce our carbon footprint and make Yorktown a “greener”
community.
Finally, Peters has advocated for a more transparent Town
government. He has instituted procedures that make access to
public information easier and more efficient. Peters has
maintained an open door policy since his first day in
office, and he continues to make himself available through
various community events outside of “normal” business hours.
Peters is committed to ensuring that everyone’s concerns are
heard and addressed, and he invites all questions and
comments from the public. |

James Martorano
I was first elected in 1991 and am proud to have served
under three supervisors. I have had the great privilege of
being deputy supervisor for eight of these years. I have
always tried to be a calming influence on the board,
bringing together people of different points of view and
parties for the betterment of the town.
I am most proud of my advocacy for seniors having
established a committee to build a new senior center which I
hope will soon become a reality. I am also proud of my work
protecting the environment which resulted in the purchase of
land on behalf of the town which will forever remain open
space. These parcels are as large as the entire town of Mt.
Vernon. Finally, I have never forgotten what an honor it is
to serve the citizens of Yorktown and have always listened
and responded to the issues that concern them!

Matthew Metz
|
Town Council
(914)-243-5563
MPMetzEsq@aol.com |
|
Matt has been a
Councilman and Deputy Town Supervisor for almost eight
years. During that time, Yorktown has always kept taxes at
or below the cost of living. In 2008, Yorktown cut spending
for the
first
time in 15 years. Matt has also fought to preserve open
space, expand recreational facilities for our children,
protect the environment and control development throughout
our Town. During the last eight years, Matt's leadership has
resulted in over fifty traffic improvements, including the
right turn lane at 202 and 118 and the traffic light at Kear
and Underhill.
This year, Matt is running for Yorktown
Justice. He has been a full time, practicing attorney for
over twenty years and has tried over forty cases in a
variety of courts. During the last eight years, he has
served as an Administrative Law Judge for the Westchester
County Taxi and Limousine Commission and Solid Waste
Commission as well as the Departments of Environmental
Facilities and Consumer Protection. As an Administrative Law
Judge, he has presided over hearings, ruled on evidentiary
issues and written hundreds of legal decisions. Matt began
his legal career in the Bronx District Attorney's Office
where he was a Major Offense-Homicide Assistant. Since then,
he has also been a Staff Trial Counsel for a major insurance
company before starting his own law practice in Yorktown.

Louis J. Campisi, Councilman
Town of Yorktown |

During our first campaign, we
walked each neighborhood and listened to you.
What many of you told us was that something had to be done
with the traffic.
We created the Traffic Advisory Board which meets the third
Wednesday of every month at Town Hall.
Residents complained about the lack of ball fields in the
Town of Yorktown:
We asked Westchester County to build a Legacy Ball field in
the Town of Yorktown and they are.
Mothers of skateboarders asked us for property to build a
skateboard park and help in getting Westchester County to
finance the project.
Last year, Patriot Skateboard Park opened behind Town Hall
We’ve also kept a tight reign on the purse strings of
government. Over the past eight years, the tax rate has
never risen above the cost of living.
In 2007, the Town Board voted to give the Highway
Superintendent additional responsibilities as Director Labor
Operations saving the Town nearly $1 million.
In 2008, the Town Board adopted the 2009 Preliminary Budget
which for the first time in fifteen years, represented a
drop in General Spending. Though there was a modest increase
to the general tax rate of 2.57%, a majority of homeowners
who have town utilities (water and sewer) will see a
decrease of about $85.00 in Town taxes.
The Yorktown Town Board was the first of many governments to
forego pay increases.
The Town Board also sent a resolution to the State
Legislature requesting that they not adopt Governor
Paterson’s proposal to reduce STAR payments.
My mission has been to continue to listen as we work to
improve the quality of life for all residents in the Town of
Yorktown. |
